Wally Whiskers

Wally was admitted as a stray who had been hanging around an area for months. He was not neutered or chipped so we have no history with him whatsoever.
What we DO know is that he is the sweetest boy, (with the most magnificent whiskers !!) who is very much enjoying having a warm bed and plenty of food and attention from everyone at the rescue. Because of his neutering status and condition, we FIV tested Wally, and he tested positive for Feline immunodeficiency virus.
This is a viral infection that affects cats, it causes affected animals to have a weaker immune system in comparison with non-FIV positive cats. It’s usually found in unneutered males who have fought other cats, usually over food or trying to mate with female cats.
FIV is not a death sentence for cats, Wally Whiskers will just need a little extra monitoring health wise, and treatment for any infections he may pick up, and his teeth and gums will need to be checked regularly ( just as you would any other pet). Wally received a full health check at our vets, his teeth had a clean, scale and polish, his cauliflower ear was cleaned, he was castrated, neutered and microchipped.
Wally will need a home where he can finally receive the love he deserves, with owners who understand that FIV is nothing to be feared.
