BACKGROUND

Barney is one of our Sponsor Dogs, as he isn’t quite ready yet to take the step of becoming an adopted family pet. We are working with this loveable lad to help him prepare for the life of love and joy he deserves.

In the meantime, let us tell you a bit about Barney:

Barney did not experience much of the world outside of the home in his earlier life. As a result, it is no surprise that when he came to us he was scared of it all and bewildered and overwhelmed. He’d never had the opportunity to learn to be comfortable or socialise with other dogs or people.

Our compassionate and dedicated staff got to work to put that right.

With gentleness and patience, Barney has come on in leaps and bounds – quite literally, as he’s a clever high-jumper! He’s very bright and listens to us, taking things in and trying to learn. After a while, he allowed us to put his harness on and take him out for walks. He enjoys his adventures and loves having a good sniff and mooch around. He’s a lot more confident than he used to be – when he wants his own space, he’ll let you know with his body language. Barney may always be a bit shy, but we think he will thrive and be a wonderful companion for the right person.

PERSONALITY

Barney has been described by one of our staff as a sweet personality in a nervous body. He’s got so much potential! Now that he’s got his own room here, he’s more relaxed and likes to play with his favourite toys in peace – he’s a fan of Kongs and has some serious ball-catching and dribbling skills when he’s out on the field. He’s a bit of a foodie, responding very happily to his food being scattered so that he can run around and find it. Treats are the way to Barney’s heart! Barney is not a fan of other dogs – he much prefers his human mates – and he likes a calm approach to life, doing things at his own pace.

Barney takes a while to trust people, but once he knows you, he likes a cuddle. He warms to human company, even if he’s occupied, doing his own thing. He’ll happily listen to the radio with you whilst you chill out on his favourite sofa. We think he’s a Greatest Hits FM Radio fan (other stations are available)
